Music At First

Choral Concert:

On Sunday, April 17 at 4 p.m. First Presbyterian Church Chancel and Senior Choirs will combine with the Gainesville Master Chorale and Orchestra for a Choral Concert in the sanctuary. This concert is in memory of Arnold Penland, Founding Member of Gainesville Civic Chorus, tenor soloist, and member of First Presbyterian Chancel Choir.

The program will include three choruses from George Frederic Handel’s oratorios: Hallelujah, Amen from Judas Maccabaeus; Alleluia from Joseph and His Brethren; Hallelujah from Messiah; and Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living. Handel’s three Hallelujah choruses are joyful affirmations of life and great songs of praise to God. This affirmation is confirmed by Requiem for the Living. Forrest’s setting of the traditional Latin mass is not only tonal but also a work of soaring melody and luminous harmony which emphasizes consolation for the living rather than grief and judgment.

Convenient, free parking in the church lot. A free-will offering will be received. For more information, please call 378-1527
