Our
Purpose
At First Presbyterian Church, we seek to
glorify God, make disciples of Jesus Christ,
and meet human needs.
Glorify
God
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.
- I Peter 4:17
Our main purpose on earth is to glorify God. To this end, we gather together to worship God for who He is and all that He has done and to use our gifts, talents, and resources to serve others and advance God's kingdom on earth.
Make Disciples
of Jesus Christ
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you."
- Matthew 28:19-20
Motivated by Jesus’ commandment, we teach biblical truths and mentor others in the Christian faith, while empowering them to do the same. Making disciples of Jesus Christ leads to personal and communal transformation as we grow in our understanding of who God is and become more like Christ in our character and actions.
Meet
Human Needs
Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
- Hebrews 13:16
By the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us, we are transformed to love God and to serve others. Meeting human needs as people of faith involves responding to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and communities to bring glory to God and build His kingdom.
